Ever notice that when your wiper blades go bad, it always screws up the spot right in front of you? The passenger side is perfectly clear, but eye-level drivers side? Blurry and smeared. During the last storm to hit the Bay Area, I was driving the Volvo, so no big deal - everything on that was fine. But with the extra nasty storm system that rolled in, I figured I'd need extra ground clearance (bad drainage in SF), so I took the Taco in to work. Bam: Bad wipers (OK, not bam, but I never noticed how bad they were as I wasn't using them). Got a new set on the way home and I'm shocked at not how clear my view is, but how less stressful driving is because of it.
Lesson learned.

Try driving through rural Oregon at night while raining with bad wipers.
Thank god I picked up some new ones earlier today.

That storm was (is) nuts. So many flooded roads in my area.

Friend of mine posted a pic of the 280/101 interchange in SJ and it was fairly flooded out...

I keep a set if the ultra-cheap blades (like $3 each, not Bosch Icons) in my car just in case the installed wipers fail or get damaged. Back when I worked from home and only needed to drive to keep the moving parts all lubed and such, the wipers would seemingly wear out faster from lack of use, and one even partially melted itself to the windshield one summer (don't buy from a brand you've never heard of except for emergencies), and was extremely streaky because of it. It worked out because the same blade later got frozen to the windshield and tore itself to bits when I was scraping the ice off, so I got a few months use from it at least.

That's a brilliant idea!
